Keeping Britain’s Roads Safe For All

Why Keep The MOT?

The MOT is an essential check on the vehicles that use our roads. Britain's roads are the safest in the world and last year saw the lowest number of road deaths since records began - we want to keep it that way.

As a regular check on the cars and vans that use Britain's roads, the MOT helps to save lives and keep our roads safe for all road users. Changing the frequency of the test will make roads more dangerous.

The MOT also helps to keep the cost of motoring down, by picking up minor faults before they become big ones and stopping insurance premiums rising by keeping down the number of accidents.

A change to the frequency of the test is unwanted by motorists. Surveys show considerable support for retaining the current system and annual test.

ProMOTe have produced a detailed report explaining the impact of these proposals would be so damaging.
